Tiwa Savage - Water and Garri EP Review

Updated: Sep 11, 2021

"Water & Garri" is a brand new EP project from Nigeria's Afrobeats sensation Tiwa Savage, the follow up to the songstress' 3rd studio album; "Celia" released back in 2020. "W&G" 5-track EP dropped on 20 August 2021 features guest appearances from the likes of Veteran Hip Hop MC; Nas, American Soulful Singer Brandy, Ghanaian Singer Amaarae alongside Tay Iwar and Rich King.

I absolutely enjoyed listening to this project, the first track "Work Fada" featuring Nas & Rich King is a deep one, you can just feel the tune hits straight through into your heart, the beat is very powerful, the melodies, rhythms, hooks, everything just blended together, Savage's vocal dexterity was heavily showcased on this track and Nas' verse was also on point on this cut.

"Somebody's Son" featuring Soulful R&B singer Brandy is a total jam, the song is about love & heartbreak, the lyrics are definitely heartfelt, sang in Savage's dialect "Yoruba" and English, Brandy's soothing vocals also energise the song, with both singers complementing each other

attempts on this mellow track.

This is a very remarkable project from the "Kele Kele Love" Singer, a compilation of soulful ballads/Afropop/R&B, well written and well composed tailored to a wider audience, the EP sounds so mainstream and I love the way Savage evolved on this project with her sonic sounds and style, "W&G" creates somewhat easy listening experience with a unique feel, like a feel good experience to the listeners, anyone can relate to this body of work, it has a cosmopolitan vibe.
