Mr P - The Prodigal (Album)

Mr P, the former member of the Nigeria's Afrobeats Mega duo, P-Square drops his most anticipated debut solo album today (Friday April 2 2020) titled, "The Prodigal" which features guest appearances from the likes of Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage, Teni, Simi, Singah, Mohombi,

Tamar Braxton, Oviekelz and Dj Switch.

After series of successful albums and projects under the brand "P Square" with groundbreaking albums like "Danger", "The Invasion", "Double Trouble", "Last Nite", "Get Squared" and "Game Over", P Square used to dominate the Afrobeats music scene worldwide, they were the voice of Afrobeats, they had sold out stadiums shows and big arena concerts sold out all over the world. In the year 2017, Peter Okoye aka Mr P finally decided to embark on a solo career and disbanded from from the now defunct P Square, since then, Mr P had been developing himself musically, he had released a number of hit singles which had been well received by his fans, such as "One More Night" ft Niniola, "Ebeano", "Karma", "Penalty Dance" ft Dj Switch, "Cool It Now" and more.

Mr P really started gracing his solo artist journey in the last three years and I must say he's grown so flourish in the past few years as a solo artist, and on "The Prodigal" album, I like the way he has the confidence to sample and experiment with wide varieties genres of music, be it Afrobeats or Afrobeat with no S, Ampiano, Dancehall and R&B per se.

Tracks like "I No Like Trouble" is a diffusion of two genres "Afrobeats and Afrobeat" and merging the two sounds together lyrically and beat wise to create a crisp sound, while on the other hand, you have "Eh Lo" an Ampiano infused hit which showcases Mr P's artistic versatility to switch the direction of his sounds to cater for a wider audience.

This is an exemplary body of work from one of the Dons of Afrobeats music and I am really impressed with the project.
