Afro Nation Portugal is gearing up to take over Praia da Rocha beach in Portimão from July 9-11, 2025, and this 5th anniversary edition is shaping up to be the festival’s most explosive yet. If you’re into Afrobeats, Amapiano, R&B, hip-hop, or just soaking up the best vibes on a sun-drenched beach, this is your summer must-hit.

The lineup’s already bursting with global icons and rising stars, and it’s a testament to Afro Nation’s knack for blending the biggest names with the freshest talent. Let’s talk headliners first—because they’re unreal. Also don't forget there are more artistes to be announced to the bill.

Burna Boy, the Grammy winning African Giant, is back for his fourth Afro Nation Portugal stint, ready to drop bangers like “Last Last” and “Ye” with that signature live energy. Davido, a festival OG since 2019, returns fresh off his upcoming album 5ive and a massive Tottenham Stadium gig, promising to light up the LIT Stage with hits like “Fall”, “Unavailable”, Kante and many more hits. Then there’s Chris Brown, the R&B powerhouse who’s no stranger to Afro Nation, bringing his slick choreography and crossover anthems.

Tems who recently bagged a Grammy for her smashing single "Love Me Jeje" makes history as the first African female headliner, her soulful “Essence” vibes set to mesmerize the crowd. Mary J. Blige, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, will deliver a special sunset performance—think “Family Affair” with a beach breeze. And French rap titan Booba rounds out the top tier, adding his gritty edge to the mix.

But the magic of Afro Nation isn’t just in the headliners—it’s the deep bench of talent that keeps the energy flowing across stages. On the LIT Stage, you’ve also got Ghanaian-American star Amaarae, whose genre-bending Afrobeats-R&B-pop fusion (think “SAD GIRLZ LUV MONEY”) is pure fire. British-Nigerian Gabzy will bring his smooth Afro-R&B flair with tracks like “Hold My Hand,” while French-Congolese rapper Franglish blends Afrobeat and hip-hop heat with cuts like “My Salsa.” Innoss’B, the Congolese sensation behind “Yope,” will have the crowd moving with his Soukous-infused rhythms. Add in Odeal, a UK Alté scene standout, and June Freedom, whose Afro-Latin-worldbeat mashups are a vibe, and you’ve got a stage that’s stacked.

Over at the Piano People Stage, Amapiano takes center stage with South Africa’s finest. Scorpion KingsDJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small—headline with their pioneering deep house grooves, joined by DBN Gogo, whose “Khuza Gogo” energy is unstoppable. Uncle Waffles, the Amapiano queen, returns to keep the dancefloor buzzing, while Young Stunna and Nkosazana Daughter bring the vocal heat behind some of the genre’s biggest hits. Vigro Deep’s intricate beats and KMAT’s rising star power add even more flavour to this Amapiano takeover. And don’t sleep on Felo Le Tee or the duo Lee McKrazy vs. Scotts Maphuma—South African producers who’ll keep the basslines thumping all night.

The setting is a dream: Praia da Rocha’s golden sands, 25°C July days, and 12 hours of sunshine in Portugal’s Algarve region. Over 40,000 fans from 160+ countries will flood Portimão, turning it into a global party hub. The main LIT Stage will flex top-tier production, while Piano People keeps the Amapiano faithful locked in. Whether you’re posted up in the Golden Circle near the artists, chilling in the VIP Oasis with its private beach, or just dancing barefoot in the sand, there’s a spot for you. Cashless wristbands mean no fumbling for cash—just load up and vibe out.

Afro Nation’s more than a festival—it’s a cultural flex. Since 2019, it’s been a launchpad for African music’s global rise, spotlighting everyone from Wizkid to Megan Thee Stallion in past years. The 2025 lineup, backed by Visit Portugal, The Malachite Group, MOT and partners like BBC Radio 1Xtra, doubles down on that legacy.

Expect food stalls slinging West African eats, fashion popping off with bold fits and a diaspora reunion that’s all about the music and the moment.

Tickets are moving fast—pre-sale hit October 2, 2024, general sale October 3, with payment plans until May 31, 2025. It’s 18+, so bring ID for entry and drinks. No lockers or ATMs on-site, so pack smart. Fly into Faro, then train, bus, or Uber to Portimão—it’s an easy trek for three days of pure magic.

From Burna’s raw power to Amaarae’s eclectic edge, Davido’s party anthems to Uncle Waffles’ Amapiano reign, Afro Nation Portugal 2025 is where the culture converges. Don't miss out!
